After watching the video lesson, practice playing the notes shown below. Start with the low “C” note (fifth string, third fret) and play the following six measures of notes. (Omit the measures with whole note rests). Then play the six measures on the “D” note of the scale. Continue playing the exercise for the remaining six notes of the C scale, going up the scale (ascending). Then repeat the exercise eight times, starting at the top C note in the scale and repeating the exercise, descending (going down in the scale) for each note in the C scale. This exercise will help you increase finger dexterity and help you learn the time value of notes in the 4/4 time signature. For other time signatures, see the page, “Learn Music”. Practice by counting these numbers out loud until you can remember the time value of each type of note:
