******************************************************************************************************* Learn to play your first song using the GuitarMore system of string numbers and fret numbers.

Pick out a song for a song that you would like to learn how to play and obtain the sheet of music for the song.

At this stage of your learning, find a song written in the key of “C”.

(The key of “C” as described in this video lesson).

Below every note, write the string number on the sheet of music.

Above every note, write the fret number on the sheet of music.

The first song you select should be a song with a melody that you know, since we have not yet explained the time value of notes and rest value of notes on the sheet of music yet.

(meaning, how long you let a note play and how long you pause before playing the next note).

The time value of musical notes and rests will be explained in Lesson 9.

Continue to practice this song, playing each note by referring to the string and fret numbers you have written below and above the notes on the sheet of music.

As you play each note, keep an eye on the location of the note on the staff.

Within a short time, perhaps a week or two, you will learn to recognize the notes on the staff and be able to play them without looking at the string and fret numbers that you have written on the sheet of music.

After you are able to play the song by looking at the musical notes and not looking at the string and fret numbers you have written on the sheet of music, obtain sheets of music of other songs in the key of “C” that you would like to learn to play and practice them.

Continue practicing to increase your sight reading and playing skill in the key of “C”, the key we have been discussing.

There are other musical keys besides “C” that you need to learn in order to play music in amy musical key.

The additional musical keys will be discussed in Lesson 10. *
